The Florida Keys have few natural sandy beaches primarily due to their geological composition and formation. The islands are made up of coral limestone, which leads to limited sediment production for sandy shorelines. Additionally, the strong currents and wave action in the area tend to erode sand rather than accumulate it. As a result, most of the beaches that do exist are man-made or have limited sandy areas.
