Do you lose weight when you have a spleen removed?

Because you may not feel like eating much in the first week or two, you might lose a few pounds as you recover from surgery. Most people easily regain that sort of weight loss when they get back to full activity.

A normal sized spleen weighs well under one pound. Even an enlarged spleen does not weigh more than 3 or 4 pounds.

In most cases, removal of the spleen does not result in significant weight loss.
