What does a Quercus Alba stand for but not a White oak or Garry oak?

Quercus Alba means White Oak and is the accepted common name. It is sometimes called the Stave oak as its wood is used to make barrel staves.The Garry oak is Quercus Garryana which is the Oregon oak.
