Depends on how you are using it in the office building. Technically NO, it's not a code violation to simply use one. However, there are criteria that you need to follow when using one in an office building. This is specific to Irving, TX and has been verified by the Fire Marshals office.

The rule is that you must follow Manufacturers (User License) Listing on the device. As well as these bullet points.

  • Must plug directly in to the wall outlet.
  • Must be a minimum of 1 foot clearing in all directions.
  • Must not be place on carpet.

If the (UL) says anything else, then you have to follow that as well. If all of these rules are followed, then no, it's not a violation to have a space heater in an office building in Irving, TX.
