Charles John Huffam Dickens was born on 7 February 1812 in Portsmouth, England, to John and Elizabeth Dickens. He was the second of eight children. He died of what was probably a stroke on 9 June 1870 at the age of 58 at his home, Gad's Hill Place, Higham, Kent, England.
