How much land did the freedman's bureau actually distribute?

The Freedmen's Bureau, established in 1865 to assist formerly enslaved people, initially aimed to distribute land to freedmen, particularly through the confiscated lands of the Confederacy. However, it ultimately distributed only a small amount of land, with estimates ranging from 40,000 to 50,000 acres. Most of the land distribution efforts were hindered by political opposition and the eventual return of land to former Confederate owners. As a result, the promise of land ownership for many freedmen largely remained unfulfilled.
