NO, it is not possible to contract genital herpes from a drink. It may be possible to contract oral herpes from putting your lips/mouth (mucous membranes) against something that an infected person just had their lips/mouth on -- but again, the person would have to have an active case of oral herpes and you'd have to have your mouth right on the same place the person's mouth had been, for example, a straw or the rim of a glass.
THREE POINTS:
1. You should never drink after anyone, anyway, for any reason. People can share many different viruses, from the common cold, the flu, bacterial infections, or oral herpes.
2. Genital herpes is different from oral herpes. Herpes does not "jump" from the mouth to the genitals or vice versa; there must be direct contact either orally or genitally.
3 a. Persons with active oral herpes should not engage in oral sex.
3 b. Persons with active genital herpes should never engage in sex at all. When the sores have healed, the persons (both) should still protect themselves by using a condom and not do oral sex.
yes. if someone has an open cold sore and you drink from the same glass after them, then there is the possibility.
If there is no sign of a cold sore or fever blister then you're not going to get it by sharing a drink with them.
Oral herpes is more likely to be passed while there are any signs or symptoms of a break out. When there is no sign of a sore or blister it's not likely to be passed on.
