  3. hexanchiformes six to seven gill slits, one dorsal fin, anal fin
  4. laminformes - mouth behind the eyes, no nictating eyelids, five gill slits, two dorsal fins, no fin spines, anal fin
  5. orectolobiformes - mouth in front of eyes, no nictating eyelids, five gill slits, two dorsal fins, no fin spines, anal fin
  6. pristiophoriformes - mouth underneath, long snout, no anal fin
  7. squaliformes - mouth underneath, short snout, no anal fin
  8. squatiformes - mouth at front, flat body, no anal fin
