What is the time span for Paleolithic age?

Prehistoric times refer to anything before the invention of writing. The earliest writing was developed 6,000 years ago. So prehistory started at least with the beginning of the Earth 4.5 billion years ago, if not the beginning of the universe, about 13.8 billion years ago.
