Describe life in a boomtown and explain why they were created?

Miners are motivated by money so they don't spend much time building cabins etc. A boomtown would spring up when the miners found enough value to support stores, bars, assayers, mills etc. You don't get law until you become a real town, so life was hard, fast and cheap.
