- Passing a year of inorganic/general chemistry, with lab, in college
- Passing a year of organic chemistry, with lab, in college
- Passing a term of biochemistry in college
- Passing a year of physics, with lab, in college
- Passing a year of general Biology, with lab, in college
- Accumulating several hundred hours (or more) of experience with a trained veterinarian who is still working
- Accumulating several hundred hours (or more) of experience working with animals directly
- Acquiring letters of recommendation from two (or three) veterinarians supporting your bid to enroll in vet school
- Taking and achieiving a good to Excellent score on the GRE exam
