No, it wasn't. Cars were around for a while before then and were very expensive. Henry Ford built cars and he knew how to dramatically reduce costs and invented the production/assembly line. By the time the model 'T' came into being Ford's mass production system got into full swing and was pouring out cars affordable to the working man. An amazing feat, it was the first car to put a nation on wheels.
Henry Ford improved on the already existing mass production line credited to R.E. Olds.
