In the story the ransom of red chief who is red chief?

The Ransom of Red Chief, a short story written by O' Henry, has rather lower level of comedy. The comedy is quite simple and relatively easy to understand, from what i recall there weren't many things that took a minute to understand. To determine a level of comedy you have to take in different factors. Low levels of comedy are simply hilarious, rolling on the floor, laugh out loud, downright funny. Higher levels of comedy can be the same way but for different reasons. Usually the jokes present in high comedy are harder to understand and even when understood can make you laugh but it also makes you realize the universal truth actually laying behind it.
