How to control white ants or termites?

Cover, cuts, roughness, sanitation, smells and water are ways to control ants in gardens. The insects in question (Formicidae family) flourish where there are bare earth, cracked surfaces, disturbed grounds, high vegetation and yard debris. Ground covers, particularly of strong smelling plants such as marigolds and mints, regular removal of lawn cuttings and leaf drop, rough materials such as diatomaceous earth or scratchy organic mulches, and weekly mows along with such home remedies as cinnamon and salt sprinkled on bare and not-so-bare patches and as hot water poured into ant-friendly openings will help keep ant populations controllable.
