The safe level of total chlorine in dialysis water is less than 0.1 mg/L. Anything above that can damage the dialyzer membrane and may even cause symptoms like nausea, chest pain, or hemolysis because chlorine can enter the bloodstream through the dialysis process.

This is why dialysis centers check chlorine levels every day and use carbon filters to remove it. If the reading ever goes above the safe limit, treatments are usually paused until the water is safe again.

So in simple terms: below 0.1 mg/L is safe, and anything higher needs immediate action.
