What are walking boots and walking casts made out of?

Usually there are some hard plastic parts, sometimes metal bars on the side for reinforcement and flexible nylon parts with velcro straps.

Inside the cast has some foam or sometimes inflatable air bladders to cushion the leg and foot. The sole is covered with a slip resistant vinyl or rubber.
