The ivy leaf is the symbol of the sorority of ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA. Founded in 1908 by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle with the founding members they founded the group, making it the first soroity of African American women at Howard Unversity. In Washington, DC their colors, salmon pink & Apple green, symbolize the ivy leaf.
Ivy leaves signify strong and lasting friendship. This association is derived from ivy's ability to stay attached to a rocky surface in even the most inhospitable conditions.
