International Harvester (IH) built the first commercial diesel tractor in 1932 with the McCormick-Deering TD-40 crawler tractor. It started on gasoline, then was manually switched over to diesel once it was thoroughly warmed up. Three years later they began putting the same engine in a wheel tractor with the model number WD-40.
