It helps to be inquisitive. Much of journalism is about being able to dig past the basic story to find something no one else has uncovered. Certainly, an outgoing personality is a bonus, but I know many introverts who are great journalists.
But you have to be able to think on your feet, be a self starter and not take "no" for an answer. You learn to grow a thick skin and figure out quickly when someone's trying to put a spin on things.
Most of all, the best journalists are detail-oriented, particularly when it comes to their craft. Study and know the rules of grammar, punctuation, spelling and constantly work on improving your writing.
