You can easily use a person's belongings to describe him or her. Think about all the people you know who own cars - do their cars reflect their personalities? Doesn't a thrifty person buy a car with good gas mileage? Doesn't the reckless person buy a sports car and race it through traffic?
You can use the kind of car your character drives to help give an idea of his or her personality in writing. A racy, sporty car can indicate either a reckless streak or the wish to be young and carefree. A family-type car or minivan can indicate a practical side or just the fact that the character has a family.
