Radio would have functioned much as the internet would have today. It was the main source of news and would have been a driving force for the spread of opinons and ideas.

This was also true with the invention of the printing press and newspaper. The major difference would have been that the concets were transfered in only one direction.

Another very important issue was the level, quantity and quality of music and entertainment changed. Before radio music was a local issue and talent. You could not hear an actual symphony in Boone, Iowa for example. Listening to music before radio was (for the most part) a social experience. You went to a friends home to listen to him lay piano or to a very limited selection of records. Radio allowed the transmission of much higher quality music that you had no control over, to be sent to your home.
