The Harlem Renaissance was a period in the early 1920's. It was when a large numbers of African Americans migrated from the south to the cities in the north. The center of Africans Americans cultural life in the 1920s was Harlem in NYC. Africans Americans poets like Langston Hughes and CounteeCullen expressed a new sense of independence, while Jazz Music became popular across the nation.
