Dragon Ball was a remake of another manga by Akira Toriyama called Dragon Boy (a manga based on an ancient tale called Journey to the West). Dragon Ballalso inherited some ideas from another one of Akira Toriyama's manga called The Adventures of Tongpoo. It talks about a young martial artist named Goku who journeys with his friends to find the 7 Dragon Balls in order to resurrect the Eternal Dragon, a legendary beast with the ability to grant wishes. Along the way, they meet many villains who also want the Dragon Balls but for bad reasons...

It talks about what happens 5 years after the tournament (mentioned in Dragon Ball), when Goku and his friends are all grown up. Goku he is one of the very few survivors of a race of invaders called the Saiyans.

Dragon Ball GT: An anime by Toei Doga. The final official chapter of Dragon Ball. It was the shortest official chapter of the series. It talks about Gokuaccidentally being shrunk into a kid again by the Eternal Dragon. Now Goku has to live his adventures again, but this time, he'll have new friends...and enemies.

Dragon Ball AF: Dragon Ball AF was originally an April Fool's prank in 1997 concerning a fourth installment in the Dragon Ball series. After fans started to realize the invalidity of the prank, a person named Toyble wrote a fan manga for Dragon Ball AF.
