Dr. Bortnick is a Kansas City native. He attended Pembroke County Day School, followed by a combined BA-MD degree at The University of Missouri-Kansas City. He then completed a five year General Study Residency at The University of Kansas, which included a one year post doctoral fellowship in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology; followed by a two year Plastic Surgery Residency at The University of Georgia Medical College in Augusta, Georgia.
Dr. Bortnick was the founding partner of Monarch Plastic Surgery, which was founded in 1995. In 2012, he joined Bortnick Plastic Surgical Arts with Dermatology and Skin Care Center of Kansas City. This is the first practice in the Midwest to combine state of the art medical skin care and preventative treatments for all aspects of dermatology and plastic surgery. His principal practice concentrates on cosmetic and aesthetic surgery of the face and body. He has developed a reputation as a local and regional expert in breast augmentation, body contouring and cosmetic nasal surgery. He serves as the Residency Site Coordinator for cosmetic plastic surgery at The University of Kansas Medical Center. He is teaching faculty for Allergan Academy and is also a national and local speaker and injection trainer for Sanofi-Aventis and Valeant pharmaceuticals on Facial aging.
He is board certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery. He has served as a committee member of the Plastic Surgery Education Foundation/ ASPS as well as a committee member for The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.He has served as President of the Kansas City Society of Plastic Surgery. He is a fellow of The American College of Surgeons, and a member of The Lipoplasty Society of North America.
