Why is Soccer so much more popular in Europe and other countries as compared to the US?

Its really wierd because in the mens soccer for ex. European teams are better then America but in the womens soccer America is better then the European teams. so i don't really no what the difference is then womens soccer in the us is better i guess.I really don't no. :S.......... Good question thow.
