Will charcoal briquets remove mold odor from books?

I have been searching online for info on using charcoal to remove mold smell. What I have found is that it has to be activated charcoal(which is not the kind you grill with) and it works best if it is in something that forces air through to absorb the odor. I have also had it suggested to me to put what you are trying to get the smell out of in an airtight container with activated charcoal.
