Why did Aristarchus make his measurements of the Sun's distance at the time of quarter moon?

Because when the Moon is at a "Quarter Phase", exactly half of the Moon's face is lit by the Sun.

That means the Sun-Moon-Earth angle is 90 degrees.

He could use that fact to estimate the Moon's distance by geometry.
