How did people travel in 16th century England?

Most people simply walked. Very few people could afford any other travel, carriages, coaches, and horses were for the wealthy (or thieves). People carried their goods they purchased and pushed or pulled carts. Travel was slow - people rarely travelled farther than they could walk in a single day.
