My car smokes from under the hood when it starts then stops once you start driving why?

yeah, pretty typical of older vehicle or high mileage vehicles, something like the valve covers could be a leaking a little oil or maybe some antifreeze, then as the engine gets up to temperature it gets burned off, it could also be spilled oil from a refill some other spill or leak
