I had this problem on my Fiat 20v turbo after the bonnet cable snapped.
You will need a long flat head screw driver.
Look between the top slats on the grill and you can see the bonnet catch (the bit where the cable attaches)
Slot the screw driver in between the nut attached to the cable and pull to the left
this should open the bonnet be very care fully not to puncher the radiator
I found doing the above at night with a torch easier as you can see the end of the cable better
For a Fiat Punto, you'll need to get under the car - it might be the same for the coupe.
I jacked up the car, placed it on a stand on the passenger side, and reached up underneath. I've videoed it - quick to do once you see it.
