How do you define fling relationship in such a way that it is differentiated with other kinds of relationships?

A fling is a brief, casual relationship. Many have an agreed-upon duration (i.e. summer fling) and aren't thought of as long term commitments. Casual sex may be a significant motivator, as well as mutual companionship.
