In the cell cycle, microtubules help transport important protein molecules, such as DNA. If a drug was added that stopped microtubule movement, then chromosomes would not be able to replicate and be cloned successfully. Copies could not be transported, and if the cell still split in cytokinesis, the two separate cells could not have identical DNA material and won't have the all the parts needed to function properly.
