Sounds like a hamstring injury. If so, the keys are getting the swelling down, immobilizing while itt heals, working range of motion during the healing process, and some physical therapy to rehab it. Ice-packs on the effected area -- 10 minutes on and 10 off, repeat for a couple of hours. Be careful not to freeze the skin -- wrap the pack in a towel if you have to. Aspirin or ibuprofin are good to ease the pain and control the swelling. DOn't start using it before it heals. Stay off it for a while. Get with a therapist and discuss range of motion excercises. The biggest mistake patients with this kind of injury run into is re-injuring it by using it hard before it's healed. See link below:
