Who was St. Valentine the Priest?

It was illegal for anyone to be married by order of Emperor Claudius II Gothicus. He was having trouble recruiting men into the army and the law prevented him from drafting married men. He chose to make marriage illegal. Valentine continued to wed couples in secrecy until the emperor had him arrested, tortured and beheaded.
