Explain why plastic containers are favoured to storing food?

While it is possible to store ice cream equally well in a metal or plastic container, plastic is better from the user's point of view. Metal transfers cold far better than plastic. Thus, it can become quite uncomfortable trying to hold onto a cold metal container. A cold plastic container is a poor conductor of cold. It does not make your hands hurt to carry it. A metal container has little give at the edges making it hard to scoop out the ice cream at the edges. A plastic container has more give at the edges. It is easier to get the ice cream at the edge of the container. It is easier to reattach a plastic lid on a container than a metal lid.
