What did abolitionists do to end slavery?

They all played different parts in abolishing slavery. Some of them were very poor and just helped out where the could, while others, the richer and more powerful ones, did more. Some wrote books of their life story (those that had been slaves, or very involved with the brutal side of the trade) others gave lectures.
