Why is Atticus concerned that jem take this lesson to heart?

the reason Atticus is concerned is because then Jem will be too afraid to shoot a gun.

Atticus is trying to teach Jem that courage is not a man with a gun, but someone who goes into a situation knowing that he has lost, but decides to go through it anyways.
