How direct selling got started and how old is this Network Marketing or MLM industry now?

MLM or direct selling got started when companies whi really cared about their target audience to do excessive research and deveiopment in order to create higher quality products than its fellow competition. However the higher expense involved in creating these products make them too expensive.

The direct selling concept is designed to cut out the middle man such as the cost of shipping to retail stores across the country and have its customers pay for shipping, eliminate the extra cost of renting store shelf space and completely eliminate the millions of dollars normally associated with marketing. (Magazines, radio, newspapers, etc).

Because products that MLM companies usually manufacture usually require someone such as you and I to explain the superior differences to customers and prospects. MLM is the best option. MLM was introduced in the 1940s when companies such as Amway, Mary Kay, and Shaklee came around and is a proven and highly affective distribution channel. However many people have created money making scemes which use the MLM concept without the use of products which is a pyramid scheme and is illegal.
