There were several compromises made, in name and in ideology, in the writing of the U.S. Constitution. One of these was the Great Compromise which established the structure of Congress. Another was the Three-Fifths Compromise, which benefited slaves states by counting every five slaves as three free people for population, representation, and taxation purposes.
