What situations can make one learn humility?

There are many situations that can make one learn humility. After a great achievement in sports or another field one can often show off and embarrass others. Humility can be learned in this situation to win with more grace and thought for others. One can also learn humility after seeing the sacrifice others make one one's behalf such as being in the presence of those in the armed services.
