How do you bleed a sand filter?

To bleed a sand filter, first turn off the pump and locate the air relief valve, usually found on the top of the filter. Open the valve slowly to release any trapped air; you may hear a hissing sound as air escapes. Once water begins to flow out of the valve, close it tightly and restart the pump.
