The first teddy bear was bought by President Theodore Roosevelt's niece, Margaret "Daisy" Roosevelt, in 1902. The bear was created by toy maker Morris Michtom, who was inspired by a political cartoon depicting Roosevelt refusing to shoot a bear during a hunting trip. Michtom and his wife then began making stuffed bears, which they named "Teddy's bear" in honor of the president. This marked the beginning of the teddy bear's popularity as a children's toy.
