Why is gas able to flow?

Gas is able to flow because its particles are widely spaced and move freely in all directions. This high kinetic energy allows gas molecules to overcome intermolecular forces and glide past one another easily. As a result, gases can expand to fill their containers and flow to occupy available space. Additionally, the lack of a fixed shape or volume enables gases to adapt to the contours of their environment.
