What did David Lloyd George think should happen to the Germans?

In the general election campaign in 1918 Lloyd George promised to 'squeeze Germany till the pips squeak' and to 'hang the Kaiser'. However, at the Paris Peace Conference Lloyd George acted as a moderating influence on France. In particular, he was keen to prevent France becoming the sole great power on the Continent.
