In 1989 the nominees were: Daniel Day-Lewis for My Left Foot; Kenneth Branagh for Henry V; Tom Cruise for Born on the Fourth of July; Morgan Freeman for Driving Miss Daisy and Robin Williams for Dead Poets Society. The Academy Award went to Daniel Day-Lewis for My Left Foot.

He also won the Best Actor Oscar in 2007 for There Will Be Blood.
