First found in Northumberland where they were seated from very ancient times along the banks of the River Tyne.

Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Robert Tyndall who was perhaps one of the first recorded settlers in the U.S. He settled in Virginia in 1606; 14 years before the "Mayflower." The widow Tindall settled in Virginia in 1623.
