Can people eat rubber

Per one site, the fruit of the Rubber Tree, or Ficus elastica, is "barely edible." Per another site, it is not edible. The first reference is probably correct because the fruit of the Banyan, or Ficus benghalensis, is also described as "barely edible," and would be poor to use even during a famine.
