If you were gay in early 1950's were you target by local law enforcements agencies?

It depends on where you lived. In bigger cities, there were underground communities of gay people, and urbane people tended to be more tolerant. In smaller towns, if you were gay and obvious or overt about it, you might draw attention to yourself from the police and others--mainly out of fear and scapegoating.
