What do you mean wants to be a girl? He wants pink things? or he likes boys in a sexual way? My son at 13 dressed up like a girl in stockings and a dress for Halloween. He was secure enough with his maleness that he wore hills and all but he knew and knows he is a boy. He didn't feel like he was a girl, he thought the silky underclothing the and nylon felt like his blankly when he was a baby. but he does not wish to wear it any other time. Talk with your child and ask him what he is truly feeling and DO NOT accuse, yell or become upset. You can not listen if you are speaking. Get to know your son's friends and listen to them as well. Good luck Answer If he says he absolutely knows he wants to be a girl, you can take him to a psychiatrist that specializes in transgenderism to see if he really is a born transsexual. If he is, it is okay they are only being different and not harming anything. All that matters is you are showing love towards each other and that they are happy who they are. They need to be able to be the gender they are on the inside because if they can't it mentally harms them with depression, anxiety or not knowing who they are on the inside. Also the earliest age to transition to the his/her true gender identity's gender the better, because the older the body is the harder it is to transition to the other gender. Especially if you could do it before the teen years of puberty when the male hormones shape the body in a masculine form. There are so many transsexuals that wish they could have transitioned at least in the early stages of puberty. (By hormones or sex reassignment surgery) You will save him/her a lot of trouble. If you are unsure you could also do just hormones and wait until he is older to do SRS. Before even thinking of anything like a change of gender, check out what your son really means. Kids sometimes say things that they only half mean; express fantasies, and so on. Above all, avoid drama. Answer At that age, children will often experiment with their sexuality;a boy saying that he wants to be a girl could mean a wide variety of things. Has their been a recent female addition to the family? Does he have a sister or friend or cousin who is allowed to do things that he is not? Does he think girls are treated differently , i.e., better than boys by his teachers or other adults? Does he feel that girls have more freedom and creativity in their hairstyles and dress than boys? This may be more of a societal issue than a gender issue. But regardless of what your son means by 'wanting to be a girl', I do agree that the best thing is to avoid drama, keep communication with your child open, ask questions and allow your child the freedom to experiment in ways that are comfortable for you. And try to remember that some degree of experimentation at this age is normal for both boys and girls.
