If your hemoglobin numbers decrease slightly during pregnancy, it is usually because the blood volume has increased, usually blood plasma, therefore the concentration of red blood cells decreases. If it drops significantly, it may indicate nutritional deficiency, such as b-vitamins, iron and/or copper. (copper oxidizes iron to a usable format). Other reasons exist, but to a more rare degree.
